Detroit made it as the #1 most dangerous city in America.
To put it in perspective: Detroit’s murder rate is more than 8% higher than the country’s second most murderous city, Baltimore, and eight times that of the least murderous metro. More people were murdered in Detroit than in San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas and San Jose combined–and each one of those cities has a bigger population than Detroit.

It feels good to be numero uno sometimes, doesn’t it? I suppose you have to wonder if there are just certain neighborhoods that are making this more dangerous than others… because most cities aren’t just “across-the-board” dangerous… there are always good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods… you just have to make sure the bad aren’t weighing down the good.

Very true - also got to wonder about the gang violence too. I’ve never feldt un-safe downtown. However there are some neighborhoods that I wouldn’t dream of going into.
The other problem is that here is a lack of police in Detroit. When industry leaves the city in lieu of the suburbs, you lose your tax base and can’t afford the police…..etc.
It’s a viscious circle and unfortunately its the residents that suffer.
